Hair Diary Pt. 2

Saturday, 14 July 2012

So last Saturday I purchased Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner because I have heard and read that it really does prevent breakage while encouraging hair growth.

I've also heard that is can cause a lot of build up and make your hair oily but I am thinking that may only be if you have naturally really thick and oily hair already because it just made my hair silky smooth and soft. I will update you all though to let you know if I end up finding my hair gets oily and nasty from this product. So far though I have really been loving it though because it has really made me hair feel incredibly soft and thick! I've also noticed it's made my hair really shiny which is fantastic because it was starting to look really dull and damaged - yuck!

I'll admit, I've been a bit bad though with over washing my hair these past two weeks because I've really kicked up my workouts - which leaves little option to my hair washing schedule. I am trying to get this under control because I know it can ruin your hair but man-o-man it is hard to do! If anyone has post-workout tips on how to un-nasty hair, let me know!!

To combat my over-washing I have been massaging my scalp every night for about 5 minutes with Sweet Almond Oil mixed with Rosemary, Peppermint and Lavender essential oils because I have read that this can have amazing results in growth and thickness of ones hair. Thus far I have zero results, but who knows - perhaps after a few more weeks of doing this I will have long, gorgeous, full hair....Hopefully! I really like the feeling of the peppermint on my scalp because it leaves this sort of tingly feeling which is really cooling and refreshing.

I have also done one hot oil treatment this week to add a bit more moisture to my hair. I heated up Coconut Oil, almond oil and avocado oil on the stove until it was warm, not hot, and then added in some Rosemary and Lavender essential oils to the mix. I then massaged it into my scalp and damp hair and wrapped it up in a shower cap + hot towel and let it sit for about an hour. When I took my hair down I then took a bit more avocado oil and mixed it with some peppermint extract and gave my scalp a quick massage before washing out the oil. My hair felt super soft afterwards and then ends looked really healthy!

Aside from all that I haven't been using any heat on my hair this week, I made a "No-heat" rule for myself this week because I tend to like to style my hair on weekends. I probably will end up doing something with my hair tonight if we go out this so I think not using heat throughout the weekdays is a really smart way to limit damage. To keep up on this rule through the week I have been trying out a few different up-do styles which hopefully I'll be able to share with you in the next few weeks! I've never been comfortable wearing all my hair up really but I guess I'll have to get used to it if I was great hair! If you have any up-do

So to summarise, I haven't visually noticed any new growth yet but I measured my hair and it said it grew 1 inch! I have set for myself a short-term goal of 2 inches, but I am hoping for my hair in total to grow 4.5 - 5 inches.
(Just to recap: My hair started out being 18" long and so my pt.1 goal will be completed at 20" and apparnetly my hair is at 19" already!!!)

  2. Your hair is quite long to start off with, so probably will take longer to grow... I notice that my fringe grows faster than the rest of my hair so maybe shorter hair grows faster? Haha not sure if this is true but I noticed it :D but the no heat rule will really help! good for you ...you'll see results in no time :)

    1. Very true - it is pretty long to begin with so the results will feel slower. I tend to see my bangs grow faster too but I think thats because that part of your hair is so healthy that it doesn't break as it grows - since that hair is "newer". Hair on the bottom breaks easier cause its older so hair is still growing but you can't tell since it is just breaking off anyways - Hair trims are a really good idea, I tend to cut my own hair when I notice it's getting a bit messy! xx

  5. I've been washing my hair everyday for years now and I really haven't had a problem with it being unhealthy but I haven't really been using heat on my hair very often. I have noticed my hair doesn't grow as fast now that it's long. I really want to try some oils for my hair. Which ones would you recommend the most out of all of those? Where is the best place to get them.

  13. I hate the workout dilemma! My boyfriend is always asking me to workout with him and I have to make sure I didn't just wash my hair. It's so irritating. I think if you use dry shampoo after a workout, it helps. You can go a couple of days without shampooing again. :P

  16. You go girl!!! No heat :D! Absolutley the best choice! Have you ever tried an olive oil mask or a almonds oil mask? I recommend to try that once! For blonds it is recommended to use almonds oil instead of olive oil because it could give you a slightly green-ish glow. Just massage the oil onto your hair and head, tie it up & cover it with kitchen paper, leave it for at least an hour. Wash it out with SOAPLESS shampoo (it might be necessary to wash it twice, but with soapless shampoo it doesn't really matter)! I forgot to tell you last time, soap in shampoos is also a killer for your hair & skin. It has been proved actually that soap is damaging to the skin and takes away the good layer of fat. The content of soap is unnecessary, it creates bubbles, wow.... we all really need that! You can use soapless shampoo more often than normal shampoo aswell. Avoid any (hair) products with soap, perfume or paraffine. All unnecessary stuff we don't need and is actually damaging. Of course we all want our hair to smell nice, there are also shampoos without perfume, but with natural extracts to give it a nice smell :)...

Wow, long speech haha...hope my tips are useful! You should for sure try out the hair masks! Sounds yuck, but it pays off!! :D

    Lucia
