Hey Everyone!
So if you’ve been following my blog then you know that I’ve recently began keeping a diary of my hair – the treatments I’ve been using, if I use heat on my hair and so on. About four weeks ago, 2 weeks after I started my hair growth journey, I bought Mane and Tail Shampoo + Conditioner after reading that it could not only protect your hair from getting split ends, it also was well known (to the rest of the world, not to me) to help hair growth. The reviews were all pretty fantastic of this hair-care duo that I decided I needed to give it a go myself, and I am happy to say that I am so glad I did!
So far my hair has grown 2" (from 18" to 20" in 6 weeks, and I have the roots to prove it!) and it’s really made my hair incredibly shiny. I’ve also noticed that my hair is much more resistant to split ends since using this set as I used to go home and cut my split ends off almost every day, now I have no need to and I actually can let me hair be!
The set is pretty inexpensive, at least I find it inexpensive because usually I buy salon or all-organic hair products which are pricey! The M+T set only costs about $16.00 - each bottle being $8.00 - and quite honestly these bottles are huge, they are completely massive and will last a very long time. I personally feel that spending $16.00 on two products is a pretty good deal!
I felt like there had to be a downside to this product, only $16.00 for both - too good to be true right? Well, there is one minor downside which is the smell - there isn't any really. I know many people love to have their hair smell fruity, or sweet or however but you're not going to get that with M+T! This may be a deal breaker for some of you, but for me it wasn't really a big deal - I own a lot of essential oils so I just put some Lavender oil in it so that my hair would smell like lovely lavender.
A major concern I had previously was of the Shampoo making my hair feel oily as I had read a few reviews that said their hair ended up feeling quite thick and greasy after a few uses. Luckily my hair has not felt greasy, oily or coated and in-fact my hair has felt wonderfully thick, incredibly soft and looks super shiny! Also my hair has a huge tendency to get frizzy, especially when I let my hair dry naturally (which is always now) and since using this product my hair has really smoothed out and on a few occasions has actually even dried straight, unless I am sleeping and it dries – then it’s a curly mess, but still not frizzy!
The conditioner is not amazing as a conditioner honestly, but it’s great as a leave-in conditioner so that’s how I’ve been using it. I have been using my Macadamia conditioner in the shower but out of the shower I apply a tiny amount of the Mane and Tail conditioner to my hair and it really does make my hair tangle free and healthy looking. Using the Mane and Tail conditioner in the shower really didn’t do anything for my hair, it wasn’t hydrating or drying – it didn’t do anything! As a leave in conditioning treatment though the M+T conditioner is fantastic.
To be honest to, M + T isn't the only product I've been using on my hair these past four weeks. I've also been using the Organix macadamia condition mentioned above, my Phyto deep-conditioning treatment once a week as well as weekly hot oil treatments to keep my hair extra hydrated and soft - so that could be why I haven't had any bad results from M + T. I think probably using M + T a majority of the time and then giving it breaks twice a week helps keep away dryness or greasiness, or at least it has for me!

DeleteYour hair looks great! What does it smell like? Nice? It kind of reminds me of Will Ferrel in Blades of Glory. I'm impressed by the rave review, I have serious hair envy xxxx
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks, Becca! It actually doesn't really have a smell, a downfall for many I'm sure! I add my own essential oils to it though so it smells pretty, I added Lavender actually and it is really lovely! xx
DeleteMight have to try this, is it expensive??

Same here, my hair really doesn't grow much at all usually - maybe a quarter inch every 2 months but this has really seemed to speed it up! xx
DeleteYou look realy pretty!:)
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks! x
Deletethat sounds like an amazing shampoo! I need to try that too - was it expensive?
ReplyDeletexxx Anita
No, super cheap! It's only $8.00CAD where I live.
DeleteThanks for the review! I've always wondered about Mane and Tail. I've heard about it for years, but never knew if it actually worked or not. I'm still growing out my hair too and every tip helps!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty good. It seems to react differently to each person but for me I've really liked it! If you have hair like mine I'd defintely try it out! xx

DeleteThanks for the review! I've been wondering about Mane & Tail for years. Good call on adding your own essential oils.

It's a really good inexpensive product, the essential oils definitely worked out well - it smells really pretty now! xx
DeleteWow your hair looks amazing Bree!!
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks! <33
DeleteI love your haircolour! Keep treating it so well, it's so good of you!
ReplyDeleteXo, Imke
Awe thank you! Being blonde is really fun, I think I am going to keep it around for a while! xx
DeleteOo more about Mane n Tail! Saw bottles for sale in Walmart last week, was v tempted but they contain sulfates which is no good for my brazilian blow dry :( I bought the Herbal-Gro treatment, but have no idea how to use it! You ever seen/used this? xxx
ReplyDeleteThey do contain sulfates, thats true. I find sulfates work on some people, and not on others. My hair seems to react well to either or, probably because I do hot oil treatments so often that I have enough oils in my hair! xx
DeleteI have pretty long hair myself but usually do a few trims a year to get rid of my split ends. Then I complain about how I just lost 2 inches of hair! So I've always wanted to try this and your review was very helpful. I may give it a go after my next cut.
ReplyDeleteLucky! I can't wait til my hair is longer! I hate cutting my hair but it a total necessary evil! xx
DeleteLove your hair! Thank you for stopping by my blog! I'm excited to be one of your newest followers :)

DeleteYEAH \m/!! So nice to hear that this treatment is working for you! 2" in 6 weeks is really not that bad at all!! You hair looks very smooth, it must feel very soft! Don't forget to cut a little of the ends from time to time!! I need to cut off another 5cm this week, which I cut off less than 2 months ago...it grew right back on! It's SO not fair, wish I could give you a piece :(!\
ReplyDeleteKisses,

Yeah it really has been helping! 2" for me is like unreal, my hair grows sooo slowly usually so I am quite happy!!! It does feel really soft again, finally, and it's super shiny <333
DeleteI actually did just cut my ends myself, I just dusted off the ends and the ends of my layers cause they were looking a tad frayed. It was sad, but it was necessary - long frazzled hair looks worse than short healthy!
Your hair looks beautiful Bree... never heard of that brand, we dont have it here in Ireland, must check out that Organix macadamia conditioner! x Marina
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a really inexpensive brand, available at most wal-marts. Try the organix out for sure, it's soooooo awesome! xx

DeleteI've been thinking about getting some Mane & Tail for a while now but I've never been sure! My hair is really really thin and seems to have stopped growing probably because it's so damaged so hopefully this will do the trick :D
ReplyDeletehttp://pariswhenitspink.blogspot.co.uk/
My hair is pretty damaged too! Sometimes a good cut is in order, sad but true. xx
Deletesounds like an awesome product! I would love for my hair to grow this fast because it's been super damaged from all the bleaching and dying. Of course when it grows out, I'll just bleach and dye again haha!
ReplyDeletehahahah my hair is VERY damaged from bleach as well, it's awful =( xx

Deletehey bree! that's very interesting. i've heard different things about mane & tail so your review really helps. i need so much moisture for my hair. it's dry! hahaha thanks girl, and your hair is really growing out. good for you! woot!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
Hey there Kim! Thank you, I've heard really different takes on M+T too but I happen to really like it. I think the main thing is you need to deep condition and use a different conditioner to keep hair from getting greasy or dry! XX
DeleteI have been using the M&T line for over a year and love it. The conditioner isn't as thick as I like it to be so I add some of Aussie's deeeeeep conditioner to the mis and use in the shower. The compliment I get the most is on the shininess of my hair. ;)
ReplyDeleteThats so smart! I will totally add in another conditioner to thicken this one up! Thank you!!!! <3
DeleteI've always wondered about M&T! So thanks for this! Your hair is looking so healthy and long.
