organix awapuhi ginger hair care review

Thursday, 31 January 2013

If you’ve been reading my blog for some time then you’ve probably noticed that I often use Organix hair products. I have reviewed the Brazilian Keratin (review here), Macadamia as well as the Coconut line and actually liked them all. I will say that my favourite from Organix is the Macadamia masque (review here) because it was so nourishing and made my hair feel like silk. I had actually used the Macadamia masque a lot after I had bleached my hair blonde because it was so damaged!

How did my hair get so damaged? Well, the girl who had done my hair had really messed up and left the bleach on for an insane amount of time, so long in-fact that another hair dresser decided to wash my hair out because she was getting worried just looking at me. My head stung and my hair felt like crunchy, dry, knotted straw – needless to say I was furious. They offered me another colour job for Free but I refused, after such a disaster the first time I would have to be crazy to go for a second.

I will try to fix you: So to repair my over processed hair I picked up the heaviest and thickest conditioner, at a decent price, that I could find and that just happened to be the Macadamia Nut Conditioner. It worked a miracle on my hair and the next day it looked much healthier. I won’t lie and say it fixed the damage completely – it absolutely didn’t – it’s taken months and months to get back to its original state, and I had to get 3 inches cut off, I do not use heat on my hair and I do hot oil treatments on my hair weekly, but it did really help it in the short term so I could at least brush my hair.

Anyways after Organix saw my many reviews of their products they decided to send me one of their newer lines called “Awapuhi Ginger Deep Repair”, it includes the shampoo, deep conditioner and a dry hair oil serum.  This line is designed for coloured hair and damaged hair which suits my hair perfectly since it is both coloured, and damaged.  I was really excited to open the package up and try it out because I have been dealing with some dry hair issues due the season changes.

Packaging: I tore open the box and ripped up the bubble wrap to find three very pretty glittery deep purply black products. I loved the packaging, on first glance the bottles look like a deep black hue but on further inspection you realize that they are truly a deep purple with dark and light pink glitter woven through it, it’s really lovely.

Shampoo:  The shampoo is much thicker than a normal shampoo; it’s creamy and soft and glides through hair easily, unlike many shampoos.  I was a tad worried it wouldn’t really clean my hair, but as soon as it washed out I was happy that it had indeed left my scalp feeling fresh and clean. Honestly, Shampoo has never been a major part of my hair-care regime, if it cleans my scalp and doesnt try it out I'm happy. I focus more so on conditioners...

Conditioner:  The super thick cream smoothed over my hair and instantly de-tangled all the dry, fuzzy knots. My hair felt nourished, soft and silky – something it hasn’t felt for weeks. I was so happy that something had finally softened my hair; I was beginning to go into panic mode over the state of my hair! The deep conditioning treatment was is a pretty light pink hue that was incredibly thick - the epitome of a girly product. Finally after getting over how pretty it looked, I could get on to how pretty it smelled. Honestly, the smell is lovely – it’s light, fresh and sweet. I even got Jeremy’s opinion and he said it was super yummy as well.

Serum: After my hair dried a little bit I put in the Dry Oil which I was originally a bit worried about. I do use oils in my hair, but new oils always freak me out a bit – it’s a fine line between making hair silky and making hair greasy.   Luckily this product has that balance and it didn’t make my hair oily or greasy at all, it made it quite soft and smooth!

All in all I really liked this line of products. I think it's a great product to use for your daily hair care needs, especially if you have damaged, or dry, hair. I will likely repurchase the deep conditioning treatment because I actually really liked it as a daily conditioner. I prefer the Macadamia by Organix (review here), or the Macadamia Nut Oil (review here) conditioner's for deeper conditoning treatments.

  4. Oh my gosh! That experience sounds terrible! I love this review- I have very fine hair though. So I'm always worried about heavy products weighing it down. Do you have any idea how this might work for someone with very fine hair?

    1. This isnt a very heavy product in my opinion. I have fine hair but LOTS of it so my hair does need the extra-saturation, but I found this actually quite light!

    1. Same here! The colours are really nice. If your hair is super damaged you may need something heavier! I liked this line for daily care, not for the deep conditioning treatments!

  23. Bree, I swear I'm reading my life story in this blog post lol!! I also had a terrible experience at the salon when I went blonde... I'm talking like 6 hours of bleach on my hair... My hair was STRAW after... And I used to swear by Organix too!! I actually preferred the Coconut Milk one, and used the Macadamia Oil when I felt like I needed intense hydration. After a year of use though, I started feeling dissatisfied (flat hair seemed to be a reoccurrence) and wanted to try something else... So I've switched over to Renpure Originals Argan Oil Shampoo/Conditioner... Honestly, my hair has been in the BEST shape since I've used these, and there isn't anything harsh in these products either. I mention them in my January Favourites and am going to be posting a follow up review since it's been a month of use now!
