One of my biggest vices is lipstick. Whenever I step into Sephora, even when I am on a mission for a specific product, it’s rare that I walk out without purchasing at least one lip colour. It’s almost impossible for me to watch by NARS, in particular, without spotting a lip pencil or two that I need to try… and buy.
For that reason, I’ve put myself on a strict Sephora-ban. But, that didn’t stop these four NARS matte lip pencils from showing up at my door! Today’s lipsticks were sent to me in a PR package a few weeks ago, and I wanted to share my full review with you.
NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Review: Get Off, Intriguing, Famous Red, & Lonely Heart
NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil in Get Off is a super light peach-beige lipstick. While I like the idea of a really light peach-tone nude lipstick, I found this lipstick too light for me. Since I have really fair skin, I was surprised to find just how fair it applied. I also found this lipsticks matte formula looked quite patchy on my lips and highlighted dry spots.
NARS Lip pencil in Intriguing is described as a rose pink, which is very accurate. It’s a very soft and rosy pink tone lipstick with a matte formula. Unlike “Get Off” I found this formula to appear and feel more hydrating on my lips, and it did not accentuate the look of dry spots. Out of the colours I am reviewing today, this was my favourite. It looks quite natural on my lips and is comfortable to wear throughout the day. I also found that this colour faded very naturally, and didn’t cling to drier spots. So, even if you forget to reapply this lipstick – you won’t find that your lips appear patchy.
NARS Famous Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is described as a bright coral pink. The name of this lipstick seems a bit off to me as it’s not a red and when I think of a “famous red” I think of a more classic blue-tone red lipstick. But, the description provided by NARS for this lipstick is accurate. It is super bright and pigmented, and it definitely has an almost neon pink / coral look to it. I’ve worn this colour a handful of times now, and I have found it’s quite comfortable to wear but it can show some drier spots as it fades off. This is a colour you’ll want to check on to reapply throughout the day since it does fade unevenly, and it does stain your lips. Famous Red is a really bold and beautiful colour and I especially like it for spring and summer. (I keep thinking it would look adorable when worn with a little white dress)
NARS Lonely Heart is described as a chocolate brown. It’s a super warm, dark, and rich brown tone lipstick that is very wearable. While it’s described as a matte lipstick, I actually found that it had a bit of a sheen to it and was quite hydrating on my lips. Since it is such a dark lipstick, it can appear patchy and it can bleed, which is why I would recommend wearing a lipliner and possibly a smudge-proof topcoat with this lipstick.
