It really is the time of year that I tend to notice I have  a bit more of a pep in my step, a lot more energy in the morning, and a ton more creativity when it comes to my style. It’s my favourite time of year for many reasons, but mainly I love it because it just makes my life feel so much easier. Rather than spending time worrying whether I am dressed properly for the weather, I am able to focus on what I want to wear  rather than what the weather forces me to. I simply love it. But, summer for many can also mean always feeling hot, struggling with possible sun burns, and trying to find pieces that will be both comfortable and stylish in the intense summer heat. While I adore this time of year, I also can relate to the struggles of having Mr. Sun around! Today though, to help you on your merry way this summer, I am sharing 10 stylish, comfortable, practical summer outfits to carry you through events, dates, and simple every day life feeling and looking your best. Scroll through to read more!

1. The Chic Casual Summer Style Outfit

We all need a easy, simple, go-to lazy day style. The fact is, we all have lazy days. Typically, my lazy days land on Sundays and all I want to do is stay in my pajamas. My favourite looks on days like these are simple pairings like the one above, or comfy athleisure outfits. Chinos have become one of my favourite go-to pieces, and I wore them all the time while travelling France and Italy. Best of all, there are many chino-style shorts available as well. Since the summer tends to be hot and sunny, having a few shorts hanging in your closet that are comfortable and easy to wear is essential to creating a useful and wearable summer wardrobe. 2. The Chic Casual Summer Style Outfit

Another easy style to recreate this summer is the classic everyday nautical look. You don’t need to be dressed in sailor-wear head to toe to achieve a nautical vibe, all you need is a striped white and navy shirt. Nautical styles are easy to wear, the vibe is easy to achieve, and the look is perfect for the summer season. Sailor-esque pieces really do come back in style summer after summer, so investing in an item or two that can lend itself to creating this easy laid-back summer outfit is a great idea. Who knew a casual summer outfit could look so chic? 3. The Go-To Summer Date Night Outfit

One way to step up the romance level of your style is with dainty off-the-shoulder pieces. Bold colours and eyelet pieces always lend to creating a fun summer style, but add in an off-the-shoulder dress or blouse and suddenly that bright summer look also has a element of romance to it. This sort of look is perfect for a date night out, or a fun night with your girlfriends. Since it has an upscale vibe to it, it also could be a great dress to wear for an event, or a dressy brunch. 4. The Ultimate Summer Style Must Have

A little white dress is something that you’ll wear time and time again during the summer months. It’s one of those fashion trends that never really seems to go out of style, yet it always looks so fresh during the spring and summer seasons. 5. The Retro Style Essential: The Button-up Suede Skirt

We’ve all heard that fashion is a cycle. Things coming in style, going out, being revamped, and coming back in style again. For me, there is no greater example of this than the Suede Skirt. When I was young, I can remember seeing a photo of my mum sporting a button up dark brown suede skirt. I remember thinking it looked incredibly chic, but no matter how much I looked and scoured the racks of my favourite stores – I could never find one like hers. This year though, suede skirts have made it back into mainstream style – and they are readily available for all of us looking to add that effortless retro vibe to our summer style. If you’re looking to step up your style this summer, and are looking for a great piece to transition into your fall style (I mean, how cute would this skirt look with a knit sweater, tights, and ankle boots?) than you’re going to want to grab a suede skirt. 6. The Perfect Wedding Guest Outfit

It’s officially wedding season, and that means it’s high time to begin planning our wedding guest outfits. When you’re heading to a wedding you want to be sure your outfit is appropriate, fun, and suites the overall theme of the wedding.  For example, if you’re told that a wedding is 1920’s themed, or garden themed, take that into consideration when you’re planning your look. You also want to consider the weather. If you’re somewhere that is scorching hot than you’re likely not going to be comfortable in a long sleeve midi dress. Choose what makes you look and feel your best for the theme, and for the temperature. 7. Preppy Summer Outfit Idea: Crop Tops and A-Line Skirts

Crop tops have been all the rage over the last few years, and it’s been easy to get our hands on different colours, styles, and looks of them. I know that my wardrobe is overflowing with different crops that I mix and match with my high waist skirts, jeans, and shorts.  This summer, mix and match your prim skirts with a crop top to create a look that is sunshine ready, comfortable, and stylishly on-trend. 8. The Floral Skirt: A Summer Outfit Essential

Florals are beautiful year round. They are bright, feminine, fun, and add a playfully bold element to even the most basic of outfits. A pretty floral skirt seems like a non-essential at first glance, but after sporting florals so much throughout this spring and now also through the summer, I can say with confidence that floral skirts and dresses are a total summer style essential. They add a pretty pop of colour to every outfit, and that they are an easy go-to as they don’t take a lot of thought or consideration when it comes to pairing and matching in an outfit. 9. Midi Skirt Outfit Idea

If you haven’t tried them already, this is the year to dip your toes into midi and maxi length skirts and dresses. Midi lengths have been my favourite hem length over the last few years as they are so comfortable to wear, and yet so ladylike and polished looking. While shorter skirts can make you feel nervous to bend or move, midi lengths have all the comfort and ease that pants do while also having that elevated level of femininity.  If you’re not sure how to wear a midi skirt, than click here to read my full guide on how to style a midi skirt. 10. The Perfect Interview Dress

This summer, when you have meetings or an interview, try wearing a crisp fit and flare striped dress like this All Day Blue Delight Striped Dress from Chicwish. The button-up detailing makes it look professional, but the exaggerated flared out skirt makes this dress playful and fun for summer. Interview outfit ideas used to be something I had gotten stuck on. I used to have a “don’t plan so you don’t over think it” mentality on my interview and meeting outfits, but I quickly learned that this usually resulted in me wearing something that didn’t give me that confidence that I so needed in those high pressure situations. Now, I keep a professional few dresses and looks on hand so I that I know that no matter how much time I have that I will be able to walk into my interview feeling my best. “I want to grow seeing you smiling” 💛 I s “I want to grow seeing you smiling” 💛

I saw so many powerful messages today from people sharing their "why" — the reason behind why they were there and standing as one of the "fringe". Here's a few reasons that I saw and heard:

- Why? Because I want my child to grow seeing smiles and smiling
- Why? Because I miss my family and loved ones.
- Why? Because my lived experience tells me not to trust what is happening right now.
- Why? Because I believe in our informed consent principles.
- Why? Because I believe in choice without coercion.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my job as a healthcare worker.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my business.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my home.
- Why? Because I’ve been injured.
- Why? Because I think there’s a better way forward for everyone.
- Why? Because I chose what I knew was best for me and I want everyone else to be free to do that as well.

Everyone has a unique reason why, and it’s important to take a moment to recognize and acknowledge them. Now is the time. Let's come together and be united💛

I want to be clear: I am not trying to dismiss the I want to be clear: I am not trying to dismiss the loss and illness that so many have experienced from C. It has been an extraordinarily hard two years for many, many people, for all sorts of different reasons and it is not my aim to diminish any of them. What I am trying to express is that we are at a breaking point societally.

If we continue to move forward with coercion, mandates, restrictions, and divisive passports based on fear (or a hope) then we risk setting precedents that we may not be comfortable leaning on in the future. We also risk dividing our society to such a degree that may make it difficult, if not impossible, to ever bring back together. Despite all of the debates, arguments, and comments made over the last few years, I do not believe that deep down Canadians want to live in a state of perpetual division.

If this is not the time to unite and end these mandates, when is? It is our systems that are broken, and they have been broken for a very long time. We all know this. Let's unite and fix them, and more together 💛

Creating our own peace ☮️

Nearing the end of 2021, one thing that Jer & I wanted to prioritize was creating our own peace. Life has been exhausting for the last long while and, like most people, our mental well-being suffered from the current state of Canada. We knew we needed to make some changes, add something to our lives to remove us (even temporarily, now and again) from the chaos that is now the “new normal”. So, we began making road trips around BC to find our very own home away from home. I feel immensely lucky to now have this remote sanctuary in our lives. It is somewhere we can go when life gets too overwhelming, somewhere we could live eventually if life continues to be overwhelming. In just the first few days here, I’ve already felt a shift in my mindset. I feel incredibly lucky to have this place and already it feels like home. 💖
✨Growing pains✨ . . . 2021, for many of us, w ✨Growing pains✨
. . .
2021, for many of us, was a year of growth. Some of it was painful, most of it inspiring, and all of it necessary. Sometimes growing means needing to shed the older versions of ourselves and sometimes that can be difficult or cause a loss in friendships or relationships. It can be challenging - believe me, I get it. But, anything or anyone who couldn't respect your growth then won't respect your future growth. While growth can be painful it is not nearly as painful as the dull consistent ache of feeling stuck.
