Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians! Since this weekend is all about family, friends, & turkey, I’ll keep today’s post short and sweet.
With Halloween just around the corner, I thought I would share a fun, bright, and sparkly lip tutorial with you all to get into the Halloween spirit!
While this may not be scary or spooky, it is bold and a great way to add a bit more personality to a simple Halloween costume.
For example, almost every year I am a cat for Halloween (I know, boring!) but adding on a glitter lip will take my basic costume and add a bit more fun to it.
So here are 5 Super Easy Steps to Glitter Lips:
1. Exfoliate Lips
First off, you’ll want to exfoliate your lips. Dry or chapped looking lips will make your glitter look bumpy, and will make it flake off.
So, before applying anything else – exfoliate! If you don’t have a lip exfoliant at home, don’t fret – you can easy make one by combining a bit of sugar and oil.
2. Apply Liquid Lipstick
Apply a liquid lipstick in a similar shade to the glitter you’ll want to apply. I used NYX Lip Creme in Vancouver, a deep and vampy purple colour that worked perfectly under Urban Decay’s ACDC purple glitter.
3. Apply the NYX Glitter Primer
The key to rocking a glitter lip is the primer you use. You want a primer that will hold the glitter to your lip for hours on end – especially if you plan on wearing it out on Halloween. NYX Glitter Primer does just that and doesn’t make your lips feel heavy or tacky.
4. Pack on Glitter to Lip
Dampen a small brush with the NYX Glitter Primer and pick up the glitter and pack it onto your lip. As you apply the glitter to your lip, you’ll also need to add more of the primer. The primer dries quite quickly so you’ll need to work fast!
*Another important key to rocking a sparkly glitter lip is to look for a glitter that is very fine in texture. Urban Decay’s glitters are excellent, as well as MAC Cosmetics pigments.
Smooth the line around your lip by grabbing a bit of your foundation or concealer and outlining your lips. This will help conceal any of the glitter or lipstick that has bled outside your lipline.
