I cannot believe it. Fall is officially here and it’s time to accept it and say goodbye to summer. I actually had no idea until I popped onto Google and saw their festive logo displayed on my screen two days ago. The season of colourful leaves, cozy knits, and pumpkin spice lattes has arrived; and the distinctive chill in the air seems to be hammering in even more definitively that summer truly has passed.
You’d think after living in Vancouver my entire life that I would eventually get used to our weather and seasons. The truth is, I never feel truly prepared for the seasons change because I love warm weather so much. All year I dream about days spent at the beach, effortless sundresses, and the ease of not having to worry about layers, umbrellas, and the prospect of being cold.
But, whether I like it or not, it’s time to begin planning out cute fall outfits by breaking out our sweaters, unboxing our favourite boots, and snuggling up in our blanket scarves because fall is here to stay. One thing so many of us struggle with during the fall season is how to achieve a stylish look while also keeping cozy.
How to Instantly Look More Stylish this Fall
Embrace the Cold Weather
Let’s be honest, we’ve all gone through fall resisting to actually accept its fall. We’ve held onto those summer dresses, refuse to wear a scarf, and maybe have even worn our sandals when the weather calls for boots. This year, don’t do that. Embrace fall, and fall fashion, and accept it because there’s nothing that will kill your style (or get you sick) faster than dressing for a season that isn’t the current one.
Invest In Cozy Knits
During the fall season, there’s nothing I wear more than my knit sweaters. They are my go-to in the early AM when heading to work, when I am seeing friends on a Friday night, or am simply popping out for a coffee at a local cafe. I can’t stand feeling cold so thick knits are always something I have around during these cooler months. Best of all, knit sweaters can look really stylish (and not frumpy!) when worn and mixed correctly. I personally love the look of an oversized sweater with leggings, or a more fitted one layered on top of a button up shirt for work.
Try Oversized Scarves
Last year I discovered the blanket scarf, and this year I am already ready to bring it back. Blanket scarves have to be one of the coziest accessories out there – and they are a total must-have in my eyes for fall. While also giving you the option to add more colour or a print to your outfit, blanket scarves also keep your warm – two birds, one stone! What’s not to love?
Grab Some Ankle Boots
Once upon a time, I used to wear my favourite ballet flats all throughout the fall and winter but nowadays I know better. I can’t stand the feeling of cold feet so rather than risk it, I always turn to boots. Ankle boots in particular have really grabbed my attention over the last year and I am actually quite excited to wear them a bit more this fall. Ankle boots style perfectly with nearly everything in your closet – denim, skirts, and dresses – and they are an excellent piece to have to transition your summer clothes into fall. For example, this fall rock your favourite summer dresses by cozying them up with a knit cardigan, tights, and ankle boots.
Play with Fall Colours
Autumn has to have one of the most beautiful colour palettes. Play with colours such as olive green, burgundy, eggplant purple, mustard yellow, and burnt orange to really liven up your fall wardrobe. These colours are festive, warm, and rich and will add something special to your daily style.

Nice I really like the boots!
