outfit details: Chicwish Fanciful Rose Intarsia Dress in Pink
We’re pretty much in wedding, prom – well, just event season and for me that means it’s time to prepare myself for dressier occasions. The one thing I can’t stand about events is the shopping that goes on beforehand. For prom, wedding guest outfits, and other special occasions, it’s easy to end up splurging on an expensive dress that you’ll only wear a couple times – or even just that once.
Since I believe in having a versatile wardrobe – and creating it on a budget, I am now always sure to track down great deals and look for pieces that I’ll be able to wear again. Today I am sharing a few gorgeous dresses that won’t break your budget, plus a few tips on how to find a dress that you’ll confidently wear time and time again.
Focus on Fit
One thing I have realized over the last few years is that there are fits and styles I always feel comfortable in, and ones I don’t – or that I need to “prep” to wear. For example, a fitted dress to me is always a bit scary and I always feel a sense of stress and caution over looking and feeling bloated and uncomfortable. If you’re like me, stick to the fits that make you feel most comfortable – because then you’ll look most confident. My personal favourite style of dress is the fit and flare.
Put an Emphasis on Fabric
Many times I’ve made the mistake of investing a dress that looked gorgeous on the hanger, but wasn’t practical to actually wear. Fabrics that wrinkle easily, or one’s which need to keep a certain line (for example, pleats) just end up being frustrating and non-wearables. Instead seek out pieces that will resist wrinkling and hold their structure.
Pay Attention to the Hemline
Another factor to consider when purchasing any dress or skirt is the hemline. Really test out how the skirt wears on you, for example – try sitting down in it to really see where the skirt hits on your leg. When I’ve purchased a skirt and then found that sitting is awkward, bending is stressful, or simply moving requires caution – well, then I immediately regret my purchase.
Play with Prints
If you’re heading to a wedding or looking for a unique prom dress, than try out a fun print! Prints are a great way to make your style appear a bit more fun and playful.

So taken aback by how beautiful that dress is! I also really like the shoes you pair with it…the heel is shorter than I would have expected but it’s nice. It’s almost more feminine than a higher heel. Love!
Chicwish is one of my favorite places to shop for budget-friendly dresses – this one is no exception! I love the playful Spring pattern. You look perfect! XO
