Best Makeup Looks of 2017

Best Makeup Looks from 2017 by popular Vancouver style blogger The Urban Umbrella

I’ve always loved makeup and beauty, but I think I really dove into my obsession in 2017. I began playing with different looks, brighter colours, and I had a lot of fun doing so. Looking back on all the looks I created in 2017 makes me extra excited to create more unique looks for 2018. So, without further ado, let’s hope into my Best Makeup Looks from 2o17.

Best Makeup Looks from 2017

1. Bad Habit Aphrodite Eyeshadow palette | Glam Fall Makeup Tutorial

This Glam Fall Makeup look using the Bad Habit Aphrodite Eyeshadow Palette is one of my absolute favourite makeup looks from 2017. I always love warm-toned toned eyeshadow looks, but what made this look extra special to me was the bold white eyeliner on the lower lashline.

About 5 years ago, I was obsessed with using white eyeliner to brighten my eyes. Fast forward a few years and I was pretty over the trend as I found it looked a little unnatural. Fast forward again to today, and I am actually kind of obsessed with how it looks. No, it’s not natural, it’s bright and bold – and it makes a simple warm makeup look something a bit more unique.

2. Easy Zombie Makeup Tutorial // The Urban Umbrella Beauty

The Zombie Makeup look quickly became one of my absolute favourite looks of all time because it really is something I’ve never done before. I’ve always been shy to create scary Halloween makeup looks, but this year I decided I wanted to try it out and I came up with this easy zombie makeup look. I was so surprised by the reaction I received from friends, family, and my readers online and it made me feel extra motivated to get out of my comfort zone to create more Halloween tutorials – so, thank you all for your immense support!

I also love this makeup look because I can’t see it without thinking of my poor husband coming home to me creating this tutorial. When he saw me he jumped about 10 feet into the air – definitely freaked him out!

3. Easy Glowy Bridesmaid Makeup Tutorial

Last year I had the joy of being a part of one of my dear friends, and now sister-in-laws, wedding. I had never been in a wedding before so I was extra nervous, and extra excited. I had opted to do my own makeup for the day, and so during the days before her wedding, I began practising different looks for her special day. One of my favourites was this golden and glowy bridesmaid makeup look. It was easy to create, fast, and it looked sophisticated enough for a wedding.

4. Easy Glowing Bridal Makeup Tutorial

In August, I also got married so earlier in the year I began practicing looks for my big day. I knew I wanted something that looked natural, glowy, soft, and would be comfortable to wear from 10AM – 5AM (which yes, is when we all finally went to bed!). While this wasn’t the exact look I ended up with, it was similar to this, and I really loved how glowy and romantic this bridal makeup look turned out.

5. Easy Every Day Fall Makeup

Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons, and it always inspires me to change up my makeup look. This year, my everyday fall makeup look was a soft orange and mauve toned look. This was one of my favourite looks during the fall (and honestly, I wear it often even now) because of how easy it was to create. I mean, who doesn’t love a 5-minute makeup look, amiright?

6. Last Minute Halloween Costume | Easy Deer Costume Makeup

Getting back to Halloween looks, another favourite of mine was this last-minute Halloween custome! This simple deer costume makeup look was so much fun to create, was super fast to create, and ended up being what I wore on actual Halloween. While this Halloween makeup look wasn’t scary, it was cute and fun for Halloween.

7. Bad Habit Inferno Eyeshadow palette | Burnt Orange Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial

Can you tell I like warm-toned makeup looks? Here’s another fiery makeup look that I became totally obsessed with during 2017. I loved how bold and bright the orange, red, and burgundy tones were and yet how wearable this entire burnt orange smokey makeup look really was. I was also seriously so impressed with the Bad Habit Inferno Palette and it’s really become one of my absolute go-tos.

8. Classic Bridal Makeup Tutorial | My Possible Wedding Day Makeup Look

This bridal makeup look was a bit more classic than the previous one. It has the soft black liner, the warm blush and mauve tones, the glowy skin, and the simple blush pink lipstick. This was another look I was toying with wearing for our big day. While I didn’t wear this look exactly on my wedding day, it has become a look I often do when I attend blog events or other important occasions

9. SKIN FOCUS | Easy Contour and Flawless-Looking Skin Tutorial

I have always loved a good “no makeup” makeup look and so I decided to create a look that appeared natural but was photo-shoot ready. This skin-focused makeup look really was all about getting a really flawless base and then using contouring to achieve a much more angular face shape. While there’s nothing natural about this look, I am still loving the natural effect!

10. How to Create a Glitter Cut Crease | New Year’s Eve Makeup

The look I created most recently was this glitter cut crease makeup look. I have worn cut crease looks before, but I actually haven’t ever posted one and I thought New Year’s Eve would be the perfect opportunity to share something sparkly and bold. I love a glittery eye makeup look to begin with, but add on a cut crease, and a great winged liner – and I am all in!
