These glasses were sent to me by Clearly.ca. All opinions expressed are 100% my own!
In pretty much all my early memories, I am wearing glasses. When I was about 7 or 8, I began having trouble in school but it didn’t take long for us to realize that a huge part of the problem was that I couldn’t see the chalkboard. Our teacher would write a word or number, I would strain to see it, and typically I would get a few of the letters or numbers right – but for the most part – I would get them wrong.
Getting my first pair of glasses was a total game-changer for me, not just in the classroom but in everyday life. Finally, I could SEE. While my first pair of glasses were large enough to be worn my a 1980’s grandma, they did the job and they helped me see the world around me.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that glasses aren’t just practical for my daily life, they are also a total style statement, and it’s been fun to discover ways to change up my look using glasses.
One important aspect of finding the perfect frames though is finding the ideal frame shape for your face shape. (That was a bit of a tongue twister, wasn’t it?) But once you find your ideal shape, you can easily update your look with new colours and details.
I tend to be most comfortable in larger square/rectangular shaped glasses. But, growing up I always had round glasses. It wasn’t until I was in my early teens that I realized the round shape did nothing for my already round head.
How to Find Your Perfect Glasses
Define Your Face Shape
The fastest way to figure out which style frames would best suite your face is by first defining your face shape. Certain styles just suite certain face shapes more than others. If after checking yourself out in the mirror you’re still not sure what your face shape is then try out this help “What is My Face Shape” questionnaire. After that, head over to their helpful MyFit measuring guide, this will help you discover the ideal frames for your exact measurements.
Ask a Friend
If you’re having trouble narrowing down your selection, then ask a friend. When you’re shopping online it’s easy to get overwhelmed and find that suddenly your checkout cart has 10+ more items then you need, and in these moments asking a friend or family member for some help is a great way to narrow down your choices. Ask them which frames they think would best suit you. You may find that having that second opinion opens your eyes to details you hadn’t thought of before. For example, one time I loved a pair of frames that had super thick sides but my husband pointed out that my peripheral vision may be impacted by them. I got them (foolishly) anyways, but he was totally right, and I found myself wearing that pair less and less. I usually find asking a family member, a friend, or my husband helps me find a unique pair of frames that I may not have realized were my perfect pair.
Don’t Sacrifice Comfort or Practicality
When you’re choosing your frames, choose a pair that works for you in all ways – style and comfort. It’s easy to get caught up with the aesthetic of your glasses, but it’s important that they fit and feel comfortable too. You’re wearing your glasses a majority of the day (if not the whole day!) and you just won’t wear something that isn’t comfortable. Make sure the sides fit comfortably and don’t press tightly around your temples – this not only feels uncomfortable to start, but it also can give you headaches throughout the day.
Practicality is just as important as comfort. For example, if you only have one pair of frames then you’ll probably want a pair that are more of a classic look. Before purchasing think about whether or not they would work within your wardrobe and daily style.
Time to Shop!
Now that you know your face shape, and have tried the MyFit measurement guide, you can shop online with total confidence. I love shopping for my glasses online with Clearly and recently grabbed 2 new pairs of glasses. Their glasses are truly the best. They are affordable, great quality, and they deliver super quickly. I have about 6 glasses from Clearly now, and I can honestly say they are consistently great.
The two new frames I grabbed are the Main And Central Wednesday-Sm and 7 For All Mankind 794-54 in milky tortoise. These frames are staple frames in my opinion. They are both beautiful neutrals that work with any outfit, and yet they still add something unique and stylish to every look.
