This past weekend Jer & I set off for the Sunshine Coast to celebrate Thanks Giving with his family. September was the busiest month I’ve had in a long time, so this little trip out of town felt like a much-needed reprieve. I love the Sunshine Coast, it’s such a peaceful place. To think that it’s only a short 40 minute trip out of the city always blows me away. When we are over there, it truly does feel like a different world. A calmer, more easy-going world.
It was sunny, bright, and hot out during our stay on the Sunshine Coast – but when we were back home for Monday, the weather decided to change on us. Usually, the rain really brings me down or gives me the perfect excuse for a weekend indoors, but this time – I felt excited to enjoy the rain and make a splash.
How to Look Stylish in the Rain
INVEST IN AN UMBRELLA:
In Vancouver, there is really no item more essential than an umbrella. During the fall and winter, I barely go anywhere without one either in my hand or stored in my purse just in case. If you’re going to go outside, just make sure you pack one of these along!
GRAB SOME GUMBOOTS:
I finally found myself some affordable + stylish gumboots. I was shopping at Winners and spotted these, and since then the rain hasn’t seemed all that bad to me. I really can’t stand the feeling of wet, cold feet and those gumboots really do protect my feet from the cold icky rain. Plus, they have studs, which I love.
Add a level of comfort and coziness into your rainy day style. I love warming up my looks with a cozy oversized scarf, a warm jacket, and cozy cardigan. These pieces help create a cozier outfit while also adding to the layers of your style. Through these pieces you can add colour, print, and texture to a look.
MAKE A SPLASH:
At a certain point you just need to accept the rain and make a splash. The saying “it is what you make it” is really true during these colder months, so re-program your brain to approach the rain as a bit more fun rather than a complete chore.
