Life lately has been such a time of celebration, and life has just felt so exciting. During times of excitement (and in-fact even times of great lows) one of the things I tend to do in excess is shop. It’s a problem that I am acutely aware of. But, it’s less of a problem when I go out thinking I’ll be splurging, and end up coming home with a small bill & a ton of beautiful pieces. It seems this exciting time hit at a great moment because it seems that there are wonderful sales almost everywhere I go. I came home feeling relieved, I had managed to spend only the amount of money I had tucked away for a little shop and nothing more.
One of my most exciting finds from my shop day was this beautiful cream & black handbag from Ever New. It was such a steal at only $30 and as soon as I saw it I knew it was something I just couldn’t pass up. In-fact, I loved it so much I even convinced my mum to grab one for her too. Sometimes while shopping you’ll see pieces you love but aren’t sure how you’ll style them, and others as soon as you spot them you have a million outfits in your mind ready to go – for me, this bag just seemed like something that would go with a ton of different looks. Today I wanted to share a few things that I feel are not only a total must-buy from a great sale, but also are versatile enough to carry you from summer, fall, winter, spring, and all that way til next summer again so click through to read more!
How to Shop a Sale Smart:
While a pop of colour is always fun, there’s nothing that will get more wear than your neutral pieces. For that reason, whenever I spot an item that I feel fits into the neutral zone, is comfortable and easy to wear – I feel that it is a smart buy. These neutral and basic pieces will be able to mix and match into any outfit. Here are a few things I never feel bad about grabbing at a sale:
A Classic Neutral Handbag:
A purse is not just a great accessory, it’s an essential one. While it holds all our much needed items throughout the day, it also can complete an outfit. To me, a neutral bag, like the one I snagged at Ever New, is such an important piece because you’ll always need something easy to pair with your outfits.
Jeans (with some stretch):
A major must-have item on my list is always denim. There are very few pieces that get as much wear and tear as my favourite jeans do. For me, my jeans are my “comfort zone” and I’ll wear them day in, day out until they are basically in tatters. One thing that’s really important to me in my denim though is that they have a bit of give and stretch to them. I like to be able to move and feel comfortable all day long, and stiff denim just doesn’t fit that memo.
A Structured Blazer:
While I don’t wear a blazer every day, I do feel it’s an essential piece to have in your wardrobe. I have about five blazers total (two black, one pink, and one grey) which is a tad excessive, but I have felt I’ve gotten a lot of wear out of them. They are great to dress up a casual outfit, to throw on for an interview, or to spruce up an evening look.
This has just recently become a must have piece to me, but vests are something I’ve been sporting a lot over the last year. During the fall + winter I was obsessed with faux fur vests, this summer I’ve been all about denim vests, and I just grabbed myself a knit brown + white vest (recently worn here) and all I can say is I love them all. The faux fur vests add a bit of coziness during the cool seasons, the denim vest adds a bit of a “badass” vibe to sundresses during the summer, and these knit vests will be able to be worn throughout any season – with dresses in the warmer months, and over long sleeved shirts in the cooler ones.
Faux leather leggings:
While this may not be on everyone’s must have list, it definitely makes mine. I love leather leggings during the fall + winter for day and evening looks, and I enjoy them during the evening for a cool summer night look paired with cute ankle boots. Pair your leather leggings with a long blush pink button up like this one from Chico’s and you’ll always look chic!
I wear flats year round, so for me they are always an essential item!
An oversized button-up:
I am particularly fond of sheer chiffon type button ups to dress up a look. I love how elegant they look paired with jeans or leather leggings, and I find they are my go-to item on days that I am feeling a bit bloated or uncomfortable with myself.
A Floppy Hat:
I am hat obsessed – and I always have been! Hats to me are such a completer piece and they really add something special to an outfit. Plus, during the winter having a good hat can help keep you warm too!
