outfit details: Forever 21 Peplum, Stripes Full A-line Midi Skirt in Navy ℅ Chicwish, Aldo blue kitten heels, Golden Sunglasses ℅ Polette EyewearI am a huge fan of Chic Wish midi skirts and I’ve actually already indulged myself in two others (the peach blossom one worn here, and the rose printed one worn here) and so I was really excited when I spotted this adorable striped one. I’ve mentioned this many times, but in my opinion there’s nothing that adds a little interest to a look than stripes. For example, a simple t-shirt and jeans look is instantly more stylish when you swap a basic shirt out for a striped one; or in this case, I decided to forgo simple jeans or a basic skirt and instead opted for this beautiful striped midi. While I love midi skirts, I do know that many people find them to be a bit challenging to actually wear in their daily life; but once you’re able to unlock the secrets on how to wear a midi skirt, I’m sure you’ll find them to be one of your most wearable and comfortable pieces. I personally love them because unlike short skirts, you’ll never have to worry about bending over to pick something up! How to Style a Midi Skirt:
The main issue with midi skirts is finding the right fit. If you’re nervous about the volume of a full midi skirt than try a more fitted style. Sometimes skirts with a lot of volume can overwhelm those with smaller frames so if you’re quite petite, look for fabrics that drape a little closer to the body. Plus, these closer-fitting midis also are a great way to tip-toe into the trend and to get a better idea of how to rock these skirts in your daily style. Once you’re more confident in how to style a midi skirt you’ll likely feel less overwhelmed by the fuller looking midis.
If you’re wear a slim fitting midi skirt than try pairing it with a looser fitting top. Chic loose fitting blouses (like this one) create a really elegant look. If you’re wearing a voluminous midi skirt than pair it with a slimmer fitting shirt. Wearing an outfit that has a lot of volume all-over will end up looking like your outfit is swallowing you up! For fall, I especially like the idea of pairing my midi skirts with thin knit fitted turtle necks.
FLATS / HEELS:
When it comes to your shoes, you’re going to want to pair your look with shoes that elongate you. Try for heels or flats which have a pointed toe to create a longer look.
