TGIF, am I right? These last few weeks have been crazy – and the next few weeks will just be more of the same. I cannot believe that one of my dearest friends is getting married in 2 weeks and that I am getting married in 10. Time has been flying by, and I am just trying to soak up each second of this whirlwind summer.
Speaking of summer, it seems to have arrived in Vancouver – and that we just skipped over spring entirely. We went from the cold and the rain to serious patio weather in a flash. I’m not complaining though because I absolutely love summer and patio days and I plan on spending lots of time at my favourite Vancouver Happy Hours spots over these next few weeks.
While summer style is always thought to be about skirts, dresses, shorts, rompers – we still need a pair or two of pants that are comfortable to wear in the heat. For me, the pants I’ve been reaching for most so far this summer have been my floral palazzo pants.
I am a huge fan of palazzo pants. About 2 years ago, I found my first pair of palazzo pants – and it’s pretty much been an obsession ever since. I especially love palazzo pants during the summer, as there’s very little chance of drenching the bottoms of these extra-long and extra-wide pants in rain puddles or snow. So now that we’re finally in a season that I can really wear these pants, I am excited to be breaking them out of hibernation.
Palazzo pants are often thought to have come on the fashion scene in the 60’s and 70’s (pretty much my favourite decades for fashion inspiration) but they had actually been inspired by the wide leg cuffed pants that had been worn during the 30’s and 40’s. Palazzo pants flare out from the hip, unlike bell-bottom jeans which flare from the knee.
These wide leg pants have made a huge comeback over the last few years, and I am super excited about it. They are extremely comfortable and they can be dressed up or down (like seriously, they are extremely versatile). I’ve worn these amazing floral pants to blogging events, work meetings, and even to the beach. The great thing about these pants is that they can be styled to be either very casual or very elegant. For the beach, slip on a pair of sandals and wear a casual crop top – for the office, try a pair of flats or small heels and a button-up shirt.
