I can’t believe it’s officially October. Where exactly did September go? It feels like the last four weeks have flown by, and that I never really got a chance to bid farewell to summer. Even though fall technically started on September 23rd, my mind is seemingly programmed to think that fall truly begins in October. When I think of October, my mind always wanders to rich fall colour palettes of orange, rust, burgundy, and plum; I think of Thanks Giving Dinner, pumpkin scented candles, and pumpkin spice lattes; these are just a few things that mean that it’s fall to me.
Another thing that October signifies to me is that it’s time to seriously change up my style. While in the previous weeks I have been able to get away with a summer dress here and there, October typically is the deadline for those spontaneity summer-like days. My fall style typically revolves around cozy sweaters, warm scarves, and boots. But this year, I feel like everywhere I turn, I see capes being noted as the style must have for fall – and I am excited to incorporate capes (one of my favourite fall fashion trends) into my fall wardrobe.

Why You Need a Cape this Fall

When you hear the term cape, it’s hard not to instantly think of Superman, Wonder-woman, and all the other superhero characters who have illustrated to us the fantastical ways to style a electric blue cape. But that’s not the sort of cape I am talking about. The type of cape I am referring to is the one that’ll keep you warm and cozy throughout the cooler seasons. These capes are made from soft knits rather than plastic-y rain-resistant materials.
After finding my first cape at Bootlegger, I have to say that I think it’s an absolute must have item. I rarely name trends as “must haves” (typically, I rely on the classics) but there’s something special about a cape sweater. The best way to eliminate confusion on how to style a cape is to think of it like a cardigan. If you’d wear something with a cardigan than chances are it’ll also work with a cape which makes it a practical trend to rock this fall.

Here are a few ways to style a cape in your daily style:

the coziest  fall fashion trend

Wear it to Work:

Make your work look a bit more stylish by switching out your cardigan for a cozy cape. Typically you want your professional style to appear as sophisticated and well thought out, and by adding on a cape you’ll look like you really took the time to create a unique professional look. A cape will make your office look have a bit more of a on-trend flare to it. In my opinion, anything that makes professional-wear a bit more fun is a must-try!

Style it Casually & Cozy Up:

During these cooler months my style can be summed up in one word: Cozy. I don’t believe in “toughing out the cold” and I’d rather bundle myself up than risk catching a cold. While I usually turn to my sweaters, jackets, and scarves – this year, I’ll also be adding capes into my cozy style mix. Today’s outfit is a perfect example of a fun and stylish way to create a cozy look.

Go Boho:

I love bohemian style during the summer season and it’s something I am really not willing to let go of just yet. Especially with 70’s inspired fashion being such a hot trend this year, creating warm + stylish on-trend bohemian looks will be easy by just rocking your cape with flared denim, suede boots, and layered jewelry. I’m already excited to style this cape with my flared jeans!

I'm totally the same way with fall. I literally spent hours yesterday (Oct 1st) changing my closet over from summer to fall. It's just the way it is!

I love the cape you chose to style and I can definitely say I'll be rocking this type of look this year too.

“I want to grow seeing you smiling” 💛 I s “I want to grow seeing you smiling” 💛

I saw so many powerful messages today from people sharing their "why" — the reason behind why they were there and standing as one of the "fringe". Here's a few reasons that I saw and heard:

- Why? Because I want my child to grow seeing smiles and smiling
- Why? Because I miss my family and loved ones.
- Why? Because my lived experience tells me not to trust what is happening right now.
- Why? Because I believe in our informed consent principles.
- Why? Because I believe in choice without coercion.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my job as a healthcare worker.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my business.
- Why? Because I’ve lost my home.
- Why? Because I’ve been injured.
- Why? Because I think there’s a better way forward for everyone.
- Why? Because I chose what I knew was best for me and I want everyone else to be free to do that as well.

Everyone has a unique reason why, and it’s important to take a moment to recognize and acknowledge them. Now is the time. Let's come together and be united💛

I want to be clear: I am not trying to dismiss the I want to be clear: I am not trying to dismiss the loss and illness that so many have experienced from C. It has been an extraordinarily hard two years for many, many people, for all sorts of different reasons and it is not my aim to diminish any of them. What I am trying to express is that we are at a breaking point societally.

If we continue to move forward with coercion, mandates, restrictions, and divisive passports based on fear (or a hope) then we risk setting precedents that we may not be comfortable leaning on in the future. We also risk dividing our society to such a degree that may make it difficult, if not impossible, to ever bring back together. Despite all of the debates, arguments, and comments made over the last few years, I do not believe that deep down Canadians want to live in a state of perpetual division.

If this is not the time to unite and end these mandates, when is? It is our systems that are broken, and they have been broken for a very long time. We all know this. Let's unite and fix them, and more together 💛

Creating our own peace ☮️

Nearing the end of 2021, one thing that Jer & I wanted to prioritize was creating our own peace. Life has been exhausting for the last long while and, like most people, our mental well-being suffered from the current state of Canada. We knew we needed to make some changes, add something to our lives to remove us (even temporarily, now and again) from the chaos that is now the “new normal”. So, we began making road trips around BC to find our very own home away from home. I feel immensely lucky to now have this remote sanctuary in our lives. It is somewhere we can go when life gets too overwhelming, somewhere we could live eventually if life continues to be overwhelming. In just the first few days here, I’ve already felt a shift in my mindset. I feel incredibly lucky to have this place and already it feels like home. 💖
✨Growing pains✨ . . . 2021, for many of us, w ✨Growing pains✨
. . .
2021, for many of us, was a year of growth. Some of it was painful, most of it inspiring, and all of it necessary. Sometimes growing means needing to shed the older versions of ourselves and sometimes that can be difficult or cause a loss in friendships or relationships. It can be challenging - believe me, I get it. But, anything or anyone who couldn't respect your growth then won't respect your future growth. While growth can be painful it is not nearly as painful as the dull consistent ache of feeling stuck.
