Each summer (for the last three summers) J and I have made it a point to make our way out to Ruxton Island. It’s a teeny tiny little Island just outside of Nanaimo that’s completely secluded from the world – no electricity, no running water, no nearby stores or even neighbours. It sounds very detached but there’s something so nice about not having any of those typical comforts of home, it forces you to simplify life to just the basics for those few days.
This year’s trip to Ruxton just happened to be on the Canada Day long weekend which seemed like the perfect way to celebrate. There’s no better way to celebrate Canada Day than with your closest friends, sitting out on the sun heated rock, & looking out at just what a beautiful place we get to live in; Needless to say I feel pretty lucky to live in such a beautiful country.
Now that we’re home though I am definitely back to enjoying the luxuries of not living on Ruxton; don’t get me wrong, I love it there but boy o’ boy did I ever miss warm water!
