My Travel Beauty Essentials: Makeup

Reading Time: 4 minutes While you’re on vacation you want to look your best without feeling weighed down with tons of makeup & beauty products. While it may look like I pack a lot while I am away, I do try to keep it to a minimum while also not losing out on variety & options. I easily pack all the items I bring in a small beauty bag – and I actually include a majority my travel hair care essentials in the same bag.

Travel Beauty Essentials

Eye Makeup:

Eyeshadow Primer
One of the most irritating things about warmer weather is the chance that your makeup may just melt right off your face. I don’t wear much face makeup when I travel, especially to warmer climates, but I have noticed the heat affecting my eye makeup. To combat this problem I wear an eyeshadow primer which helps hold my shadows in place.

An Eyeshadow Palette
Rather than pack individual shadows, I always pack an eyeshadow palette – or my magnetic palette with a few shadows, blushes, and a bronzer stuck in it. Palettes are always a great travel go-to because they give you the lots of options and versatility with your look in a compact palette.

Eyeliner
When I head on holiday, I typically bring one black eyeliner and one brown eyeliner. I like to be able to switch between more dramatic liner looks to softer more subtle ones. During the day, I’ll often stick to wearing the brown liner just to give a subtle hint of a cat-eye. Concealer Concealer is one product I just cannot / will not travel without. When I’m tired, I look tired, and there’s nothing that fixes my dark circles like a good concealer.  Mascara The one item I never leave the house without is mascara. It’s my go-to item and without it, I feel totally naked! Whether I am gone a month, a day, or a week, I always pack a mascara in my bag.

Base Makeup:

Tinted Moisturizer / BB Cream with SPF
It probably comes as no surprise that I burnt quite easily. I am pale, freckly, and my skin just doesn’t “soak up the sun”.  To help protect my skin when I am out, I always use a tinted SPF moisturizer or a BB cream with SPF. This helps even out my skin tone while also protecting my skin from the sun. While I am on the beach though, or at the pool, I typically forgo foundation and just wear a sunscreen.

Mineral Foundation
Mineral foundations with SPF are another great option when heading on holiday. I always pack a mineral based foundation for when I feel like my skin has had enough of the oilier / liquid based foundations. My skin gets irritated by sunscreens and liquid products/foundations with SPF in them, so when my skin begins to feel irritated, I switch to a lighter weight mineral foundation. I don’t use this 100% of the time because it would be an expensive habit to wear and reapply a mineral based foundation at the pool!

Face Makeup

Blush
While blush has become less popular in the last couple of years, it’s still an item I consider a must-have. I never travel without a blush or two in my bag. I particularly love blushes that have a soft plum or coral look to them.
Bronzer
A bronzer is another essential for me when it comes to my holiday makeup routine. Since I don’t tan easily, I will often fake a slight bronze with a bronzer.
Highlighter
Because I love to add a bit of a glow to my makeup look when I am away, I always pack a couple different highlighters. I like to pack at least 1 cream and 1 powder highlight. The reason I like to do this is because if I want a bolder glow then I can easily apply the cream highlight first to intensify the powder one.

Lips

Lipsticks and Balms:
Tinted Lip BalmI am all about tinted lip balms. They add a pretty flush of colour to your lips and feel super comfortable and hydrating your lips. Fresh Beauty tinted lip balms are, by far, my favourite tinted lip balms out there. Plus, they have SPF 15 in them!

1-2 Lipsticks:
Lastly, I always pack 1-2 lipsticks. I pack one light, neutral shade, and one more vampy bold shade. I like having 2 options so that my look is a bit more versatile.

All you need for a sunny vacay! Sunscreen for the face is difficult indeed, especially with our skin type. I don't get a rash from "normal" facial sunscreens, but my eyes will burn out of my head. Must be the alcohol and perfume, iieeh!!

    XOXO from the Netherlands,
    Lucia

Single-use items are used for a short time, but they have a lasting impact on our environment. I believe nature is sacred and we need to cherish it, support it, and respect it. That’s why when I go on a hike I always make sure to bring my reusable water bottle.

Carrying a reusable water bottle is a simple Superhabit that you can implement anywhere you go! So this summer stay hydrated and stay environmentally responsible with a reusable water bottle! #WhatsYourSuperhabit
