If we’re all being totally honest – high heels kind of suck. Alright, they look gorgeous – and sure, there’s the random girl who claims she’s actually more comfortable in them (like we believe that!) – but for the most part, we want to trade them in for a comfortable pair of flats (or better yet, slippers). I’ve accepted this about myself, and for the most part I wear flats now. Outfits with flats can look chic while also being comfortable – and to me, that’s just a plain ol’ win-win.
Summer time is my favourite time of year. I love all the fresh summer trends, the longer days, and the countless weekends spent at the beach. This year though, my focus hasn’t just been on the sunshine and clothing trends, it’s also been on some of the chic shoe trends.
I don’t know if I’ve ever been as much of a fan of shoes and shoe trends as I have been this year. While I’ve always loved shoes (and honestly spent too much money on them), this year my addiction has gone up a whole other level.
I’ve said it before, but there’s something I love about low heeled and flat shoe. While they may not have the elongating effect that sky high stilettos have, they are comfortable, practical, and they can look just as cute when worn with the right outfit. This year, I’ve found that 6 styles in particular have completely capture my heart – and my bank account. If you’re in the market for a new pair of shoes than scroll through and read (+ see) more!
6 Stylish Outfits with Flats
1. Outfits with Flats – Sneakers
One shoe style I’ve become completely enamoured with over the last year has been sneakers. Sneakers are super comfortable, practical, and easy to wear day to day. They offer a sporty finish to every outfit, and unlike high heels, they allow you to go through your daily rituals and errands without much concern for your feet.
If you told me a few years ago that I would be this into sneakers, I would’ve thought you were crazy. Once upon a time, I exclusively wore flats, sandals, and heels. Sneakers weren’t even on my radar. Now though, I live in my sneakers – and I think you will, too.
Sneakers are incredibly convenient and can look super stylish. They add a relaxed sporty vibe to any look, and are super comfortable to wear from dawn til dusk. Best of all, sneakers are no longer confined to the typical gym-wear sort of looks, and now there are so many fashionistas proving to us that you can rock your sneakers with every outfit – including dresses.
2. Outfits with Flats – Laced Up
One of the biggest shoe-trends this year has been the lace up shoe. There have been lace-up flats, heels, and now there are also lace-up sandals. I love this modern gladiator style, and this summer I know I’ll be wearing these lace-up sandals over and over again.
The great thing about these sorts of sandals is how they dress up a basic look. I love pieces that don’t require a lot of prep or thought, and these sandals are just that. They easily work with everything from a t-shirt and jeans, to a girly summer dress.
And, best of all they can turn a basic look into something that looks A) thought out, and B) sophisticated. If your style tends to stick to the classics and is quite minimalist, than add an extra element of interest to your look with some lace-up sandals!
3. Outfits with Flats – Slip-on Sandals
Slip-on flats and sandals are comfortable, easy to wear, and they are always a practical choice for day to day activities. The metallic / brown emu flats in the photograph above are flats that I often turn to when I am needing to run errands, am quickly running out for a coffee with friends, or have a full day of plans. While these flats may not necessarily be “trendy”, they are the sort of shoes that prove to be incredibly practical and work with every outfit. It’s always important to have a few pair of shoes that truly work for your lifestyle.
4. Outfits with Flats – Menswear-Inspired Loafers
Menswear-inspired fashions have been some of my favourites over the last few years. They tend to be very comfortable to wear, while still having a definitive style and vibe to them. These styles are often also very practical year-round, so while they will work great over the next few sunny months, more of these menswear-inspired flats and boots will also carry on great during the fall and winter season.
5. Outfits with Flats – Ballet Flats
Adding a fun pop of colour to an outfit is a great way to turn a basic look into something more sophisticated and interesting. It’s even better when that pop of colour is from a fun, comfortable, and stylish pair of flats. My favourite way to spice up an outfit is through my shoes. It’s a super easy, next-to-no thought, way to add some zest to an outfit while you’re heading out the door.
6. Outfits with Flats – Strappy Sandals
Strappy sandals, with or without a heel, will be some of your most worn shoes this summer. Already, I have been living in my strappy sandals – and it hasn’t even been full-blown sunshine and blue skies yet!
Strappy sandals are incredibly feminine looking and pair beautifully with every summer look. If you want to dress up an outfit, pair it with a strappy heeled sandal. Or, if you’re on the hunt for something you can wear daily, than try to find a strappy sandal that is either flat or has a low heel.

I love the block heel – it is stylish enough to wear out (without the pain of stilettos!)
Great tips for staying stylish in comfort! I love sneakers and smaller block heels.

I love heels but since having a child flats have become a way of life. These are all super cute!
Theses are all great looks! I love heels but I walk a lot so they’re not really practical for me. The shoes in this post are great alternatives!
I love wearing flats, because I try to walk a lot every day. If I don’t have to walk that uch, heals are nice. Love these outifts with flats! Gives me some inspiration :).
I really love your shoe choices here! I am obsessed with open toe lace up boots at the moment and chelsea boots are always a firm choice! Down with heels – flats forever!
