outfit details: splendid crochet dress c/o chicwish
The weather in Vancouver has been less than beautiful lately, but I’m not letting the typical rainy weather put a damper (pun intended) on my style. I’ve always been drawn to pieces that have a balance to them. You know, pieces that are 1) comfortable, 2) stylish, and 3) appropriate for all occasions and events.
These sorts of styles and articles of clothing tend to be one I am most drawn to, and get the most excited over. Since I love being able to meld style and practicality together so much, and find it especially necessary in the summer heat, today I am getting prepped for summer weather (please come soon, Mr. Sun!), and sharing a few tricks you can use to ensure every look you sport this summer works for you – both style, and comfort-wise.
Mastering the Art of Practical Summer Style
It’s all a balancing act
Go for Lighter Hues
While I am a totally spill and accident prone person, I still have always considered the little white dress an absolute essential. There’s something about a pretty little white dress that styles in such a crisp, refreshed, and elegant way – and I simply cannot resist it! It really is one of my favourite summer looks. Plus, light hues such as white, blush, or other soft pastels tend to deflect heat, so you’ll actually be able to stay cooler in pieces like these:
Practical Silhouettes and Lengths
My immediate love for this sort of style has something to do with the fact that it’s a crisp white summer dress, it’s mostly that the prim hemlines make it a dress you can always turn to for family functions, brunches, and other events. I believe in wearing what you want, and often times wearing what you want also means wearing whats practical and comfortable.
Invest in Comfortable Open Toed Shoes
During the summer, there’s nothing that feels more essential to your summer style than open toed shoes. Sandals are the ultimate style staple during the hot months, and this year there are tons of stylish, practical, and comfortable options available. With low chunky heels coming back in style (hallelujah to that, am I right?) the variety of strappy comfortable heels seem endless.
