I’ve been experimenting with my hair quite a bit lately.
For years, I’ve been learning and sharing lots of posts on heatless hairstyling techniques but only recently have I forced myself to sit down and really try out new hairstyles.
To be totally honest, growing up I really put my hair through the wringer. I dyed it nearly every “natural” colour you could – from dark black to platinum blonde – and well, let’s just say that takes a toll on one’s hair.
After my hair was horribly damaged a few years ago at a salon, I decided to slow my roll on dying my hair – and start really taking care of it. And that’s when my fascination with heatless damage-free hairstyles began.
While I often turned to my rope braids, and damage-free curling methods, I didn’t really try many other styles or looks because I thought they would be way too difficult for me to actually execute well. What forced me to begin experimenting with my hair and hairstyles was during our France trip I was unable to use any heat tools for about 3 weeks. So, I decided to take a braid that I am very familiar with, the rope braid, and play around with it a bit! And that my friends, is how I came up with the Romantic Double Rope Braid Bun that I am showing you all today!

HAIR STYLING TIPS
1. Add a texturizing spray or dry shampoo to your hair before braiding. This will make your hair a bit “dirtier” feeling and make the hair a bit stiffer so it holds in place better. Really clean hair is very smooth and straight and will slip out of the braid easier.
2. To secure it in place, grab extra bobby pins, and really pin the braid into the bun. I didn’t do this, but if you want this hairstyle to last all day – you’ll want to use LOTS of bobby pins!
3. Finish by using hair spray. This will really set and hold the hairstyle in place.

This looks so cute, I’ll definitely try it out!
