Just a few short weeks ago was the Sephora VIB Sale, and of course, I couldn’t pass up grabbing a few new items to add to my beauty collection. The items I decided to invest in were ones that I had either tried before but hadn’t yet taken the plunge to buy them or ones that I’ve heard rave reviews about but had yet to try. Wow, that recap of what I purchased made it seem like I bought a ton of stuff when really I just purchased 3 items. Anywho, let’s get into it.
Nudestix Magnetic Eye Color Queen Olive
I’ve been a Nudestix fan for some time, but I recently spotted Queen Olive and I immediately knew I needed it in my makeup bag. I don’t often wear olive/green toned shadows, but there was something so pretty and unique about this Olive Queen.
I’ve used this shadow pencil now a few times and here are my findings:
When you initially apply the product, it is soft and blendable. But, it does dry down so you need to work with it quickly if you want to diffuse the colour. I personally like this colour on the lid so I don’t blend it much. I mainly focus on diffusing the outter edge while keeping the centre of the eye pigmented and bright. Queen Olive has a beautiful golden sheen to it that makes it really wearable and unique.
SMASHBOX Spotlight Palette in Gold
I had the chance to try out this palette a few weeks ago when I was at an event where they were doing makeup touch-ups and they ended up using this palette on my cheeks. As soon as I saw my finished look I had to ask what highlight was used and alas I found that it was the Smashbox Spotlight Palette in Gold.
I have found that the highlight shades in this palette create a really beautiful radiant and natural highlight rather than overly bright and beaming. You can layer this highlight up for a brighter highlight, but I would say it works best as a soft daytime highlight.
The SMASHBOX Spotlight Palette in Gold has 3 gold tone highlight shades called: Turn it On, Crank It Up, and Blow a Fuse. I have mainly been working with Turn it On and Crank It Up as those are the lighter highlight shades and work best on my skintone, but I’ve also found that Blow a Fuse is a really beautiful body highlight shade.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
The ABH Modern Renaissance Palette has been widely reviewed and raved about by beauty bloggers and youtubers alike. I have long wanted to purchase it, but considering how much makeup I already own (and how little space I have), I just couldn’t justify the purchase – until now, that is. The VIB sale finally gave me that little push to invest, and I am so glad it did because this palette is absolutely beautiful.
The packaging is very elegant, feminine, and pretty. I love the mauve velvet cover. In addition to the beautiful packaging are beautiful shadows. The shade range is great and offers a lovely selection of warm-toned shadows. I also appreciate the shade range and composition of this palette because it’s one that you instantly can see colour combinations and makeup look options.
I have used this palette twice now and I have found that the shadows are overall very blendable and luxurious. They are very pigmented and easy to work with. Let me know in the comments below if you’d like a full review of this palette with swatches!
