She is Strong Clothing + Health GoalsI recently discovered She Is Clothing and immediately loved their designs. Elle Est Forte, meaning “She is Strong”, is such a positive and powerful message and I loved the idea of having a shirt that could sport that message in my daily life. Its lightweight material makes it a perfect top to sport while exercising, and today I’d love to focus a little more on fitness. I’ve rarely talked about fitness on my blog, but it’s something that been a large part of my life ever since having my spinal surgery (the Harrington rod surgery) when I was 13. Though I am aways off from my “ideal” fitness level at the moment, it’s still something I incorporate into my daily life. I’ve always believed that if there is a healthier way of doing something, just do it. Take the stairs rather than the elevator, walk to the store rather than drive, and if you have some free time then fill it with something that’ll benefit your health and body, like a hike or a walk!
Since then, Pilates has been one of my favourite workouts. It increases flexibility while building muscle. Since I am not relaxed enough to commit to yoga (I try, and I’ll continue to try – but I just find it so hard to get into!) and I am not a fan of dumbbells/weight lifting, I instead commit half an hour to an hour daily to Pilates in order to get my muscle and flexibility in. Frankly, without Pilates, I would be unable to touch my toes or open a pickle jar!
Along with Pilates, I also love getting outdoors to enjoy nature & fitness. I love going for walks, jogs, and hikes. One of the things I love so much about Vancouver is what a health and fitness-oriented city it is.
We are blessed with many beautiful hiking trails, lots of great places to go for a walk or jog, and on the days that don’t allow for outdoor activities – well, then we have tons of excellent indoor recreational centers that provide lots of exercise class options.
Admittedly, over the last few years, I’ve lost my way a little with my fitness. Though it has remained important to me, I have slipped here and there and my fitness level isn’t where it once was.
This year, I’ve decided I’d like to get that back on track. I’d like to regain my strength and fight for my health and my fitness a bit more. I’m excited to share more of my fitness journey with you all.
