She is Strong Clothing + Health Goals
I recently discovered She Is Clothing and immediately loved their designs. Elle Est Forte, meaning “She is Strong”, is such a positive and powerful message and I loved the idea of having a shirt that could sport that message in my daily life. Its lightweight material makes it a perfect top to sport while exercising, and today I’d love to focus a little more on fitness.
I’ve rarely talked about fitness on my blog, but it’s something that been a large part of my life ever since having my spinal surgery (the Harrington rod surgery) when I was 13. Though I am aways off from my “ideal” fitness level at the moment, it’s still something I incorporate into my daily life.
I’ve always believed that if there is a healthier way of doing something, just do it. Take the stairs rather than the elevator, walk to the store rather than drive, and if you have some free time then fill it with something that’ll benefit your health and body, like a hike or a walk!
After having the Harrington-rod surgery back in 2003, a focus on fitness has been imperative to keep my life as full as possible. Back in 2003, my doctor told me that it was important to not just be fit but to really focus on my core strength. His exercise suggestion for building core strength was Pilates and so once I was able to resume activities, I picked up my first Pilates DVD and gave it a shot.

awesome look ; -)

I need to start getting back into fitness. I was super fit from the ages of 5 – 18 because of gymnastics, ha ha. Since I stopped I've kinda been a bit lazy..

Good for you! That is such a tough surgery (I imagine) to recover from but focusing on strength I'm sure is invaluable for you!

You're so sweet, thank you so much Leeanne! I cannot believe I haven't told you about my surgery before – that is too funny! I had it when I was 13, I'll have to show you the scar – it's pretty intense! =)
That top is really cute! Looks so comfy too

Such an exicting new kind of post! I remember your scoliosis. Told you about my back problems as well I remember :). Anyway, Pilates is also my favorite!! It's part of my daily life as well, more like a life style. I need to do Pilates 5 days a week, else I feel strange :P. Made my own workout over time. Happy to see you're getting back to it. Love your workout outfit! I don't look that fancy working out hihi.
