Trends come, and trends go. Each and every season we are bombarded with images of the “next big thing” that we all need to rush out and grab. I love trends, they are what keeps fashion feeling fresh. It’s what makes the fashion industry forever active and changing. It’s all that “out with the old, in with new” mentality that keeps it exciting.
3 Street Style Trends to Phase Out
Statement Necklaces
Not long ago, we were all sporting our favourite comfy tee’s with chunky statement necklaces. We were bored with simplicity and looking for pieces that would take casual ensembles and turn them into something bold. Statement necklaces were, as they say, “all the rage” for a while there. These oversized pieces were eye-catching, bold, and dressed up even the most basic of looks – but now, we’re over them.
While statement jewelry looks beautiful, the fact is that it’s not all that practical. These “bold pieces” are more clunky and heavy which makes them challenging to wear on a daily basis. Taking their place this spring are dainty and barely-there pieces that are both light and easy to wear.
Camo Print
It feels like just yesterday that I saw “camo print” being named as one of the “it trends”. My initial reaction wasn’t all that impressed. Growing up, I lived in camo print – and frankly, I didn’t feel like revamping my elementary school go-to and adding camo back into my style. It didn’t take much convincing though for me to finally give camo a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Here’s the thing: I don’t hate camo print. In-fact, I think it can still be styled to look incredibly chic. But, I’m done with the “camo everything!” trend that seemed to sweep through. Rather than camo being a statement print, let’s transition camo into a neutral.
Hair Chalk
This is one trend I never got into. While I can appreciate candy-colour hair on others, I’ve never had the desire or interest to dye my hair pinks, purples, or greens. Even when the temporary hair chalk treatment came around, I just simply wasn’t interested. Call me boring – even unadventurous, but if there’s one thing you can’t sway me to try it’s the hair chalk trend.
Which trends are you ready to say goodbye to?

I’ve never even heard of hair chalk! I guess that’s a good thing since it’s out. 😉

haha! Yeah I just personally was never a fan of it. I know a lot of people LOVE it though. It’s definitely fun if you want to dye your hair brighter colours but don’t want to fully commit to it. I found that since it’s chalk that it would stains your clothes/ transfer. I wasn’t a fan!
I agree with the camo print, haha! my boyfriend is wearing camo non stop and I am so over it:)))

Bree, I don’t think you are boring at all … your hair is beautiful and I wouldn’t suggest coloring it a wild color unless you wanted to of course… I am going a wild color myself… but… my hair is pretty well grey so if I don’t like it I can just color it back to what I like… I am sure I will love it though… I never did get into the chalk colors though… xox
Yes, I agree with all of these! I’d also like to add the “Pajama” trend. Designers try this I swear every spring, and it never really takes off. Stop trying to make PJs happen- they’re not going to happen!
I love your blog, but have to disagree with the statement necklace needing to be phased out. There are many statement necklaces that are not heavy and clunky. Sure they are heavier than a delicate necklace but they dont have to be super clunky.
Check out http://www.stelladot.com/kimhutch and you will see there are a lot of lighter options to dress up a simple outfit.
I think they are really pretty, and I love how they look most of the time – but I think I just am finicky when it comes to large jewelry! I like dainty and light jewelry, and I just haven’t found a statement piece that I find totally comfortable to wear. For me, they won’t be phased out entirely – just from my day to day casual style!
OMG, yes especially to hair chalk! I think that should be reserved for teenagers only!

I’ve never really known of anyone to try hair chalk…but maybe it’s teens that have been using it lately?? Regardless, NO THANK YOU!
