Happy first of December everyone! I cannot believe we only have this month before we’re officially stepping into 2016. It feels like this year has flown by. Heck, I was just getting used to writing “2015” and now it’s already nearly 2016?! I suppose that is proof of a great year, and boy – was 2015 ever great.
Now that we’re actually IN the month of festivities, it’s time to really buckle down and talk holiday style. In my opinion, one of the best parts of the holidays are all the events that the month is filled up with. There are office parties, gatherings with family, ugly sweater parties with friends – and all of it offers an excuse to break out your favourite holiday pieces. Click through today and let’s talk holiday style and how to achieve a beautifully festive yet practical look!
3 Tips to Finding Your Perfect Holiday Style
Look for a Dress with Movement
One thing I love about holiday gatherings is that somehow, someway the night always seems to end with everyone dancing. Whether I’ve been simply hanging out in a friend’s living room or at an office party – it seems at one point or another, we all end up doing our best Elaine dance moves. I rarely dance, but when I do I love to have a dress that moves with me rather than constricts me.
Dresses that offer some comfort, ease, and movement are my favourite pieces to wear to holiday parties as I like to be able to feel both comfortable and break a move whenever I feel like it. Any article of clothing that requires me to get up a certain way, or shuffle uncomfortable as I dance is an immediate no-no in my books. My personal style always takes practicality into consideration, and I believe an outfit should offer a certain level of comfort while not sacrificing the style-factor.
Sometimes, it’s all in the Details
Going with a dress you’re comfortable in is the best thing you can do, and after that you can build upon it to create a more dressy and festive look. A simple LBD isn’t necessarily “festive” but you add on some glittery nails, a bold lip, or sparkly accessories and you’ll find that your outfit will instantly be elevated to a more holiday-inspired look.
Even in my daily style, I have always found the best way to take an outfit up a notch is by adding on a few accessories that add a bit more dimension to a look. Since I am typically a t-shirt and jeans sort of girl, I’ve always found that the best way to instantly add a bit more sophistication to an outfit is by simply adding on a few unique details.
Experiment with Holiday Beauty
One of my oldest friend’s once said “everything is more fun with glitter” and I have to say, she was kind of right. Adding a bit of sparkle to your holiday style can take a look from being basic to eye-catching. By sparkle, I don’t necessarily mean actually going with glittery or sparkly makeup – but rather adding something a little more glamourous and out-of-the-norm to your festive outfits. Typically, my beauty routine is pretty simple and I tend to go for very natural colour palettes – but sometimes I have found that it is nice to break the norm with a bolder look. Be adventurous with your beauty this holiday season!
