I spend 90% of my time in casual attire.
While I love dresses, frilly skirts, and trousers – there’s nothing that is more practical and comfortable than a casual look. I mean, how often are you wearing your favourite bodycon dress to go grocery shopping, right?
For that reason, it’s not just important – it’s essential – to build a wardrobe the combines casual practicality with your unique sense of style to create summer looks you’ll actually want to wear.
I promise you, casual style doesn’t have to mean dull – and today I am going to show you that with a fun casual (yet totally chic) summer outfit idea!
It’s always been important for me to be able to mix casual pieces with my style. I’m not a dressy sort of person in my daily life, and I honestly prefer fashion that has a more relaxed vibe to it.
But I’ve found that especially during the summer, getting a grasp and understanding on how to build stylish casual summertime outfits is pretty essential to my summer lifestyle.
The fact is, the summertime calls for adventure – and you need your style to transition from whatever and wherever you go. As soon as the sun comes out, I am pretty much always out and about.
I love spending my time discovering new happy hours with my girlfriends, lazing the day away at the beach, going for a walk around the sea wall, or picnicking an afternoon away with Jer.
Summer is my time to get out and have fun, and I don’t want to be wasting time running back home in-between adventures to get changed into more “appropriate” clothing!
Tips on Pulling off a Casual Chic Style
1. Incorporate Current Trends
One way to instantly elevate a casual outfit is by incorporating current fashion trends into your summery look.
In today’s outfit, I’ve added in a playful fringe handbag, frayed ombre jeans, and a chunky gold heeled sandal. These little details take a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit and step it up a level.
2. Add in a Metallic Piece
Metallic pieces act as a neutral while still adding visual interest to your outfit.
These gorgeous lace-up sandals are lovely, to begin with, but add to it that they have one of my summer trends incorporated in them – a chunky gold heel – and suddenly, I can’t help but love them. Also, since metallic pieces carry a glamorous element to them, they instantly add a dressier component to your outfit.
In my opinion, metallic pieces are the “no brainers” of style since they really do pair with everything without being an obvious basic. If you ever feel as though you’re not sure what will “go” with your outfit, try a metallic handbag or shoe.
3. Striped Shirts are ALWAYS In Style
A striped tank top or tee shirt will always wear stylishly. While they are a basic (and a total wardrobe essential), they also bring a fun nautical element to your outfit which is perfect for the summer season.
4. Go For Distressed Denim
If you want to really play into your casual style then you’re going to want to grab yourself a pair of distressed jeans. Distressed torn-up denim tends to be what I am drawn to.
Perhaps it’s my inner beach-bum, but I just can’t help but love the relaxed care-free vibe that distressed denim brings to mind. These rosie low rise skinny jeans from Ever New aren’t only distressed, they also have an ombre frayed hem – which is totally on-trend!
Distressed jeans will instantly take a look and bring it to an effortlessly cool level. It’ll look as though you rolled out of bed, threw on your comfiest pair of jeans, and somehow managed to look super chic. And I mean, who doesn’t love that “I put no effort in and still look chic” sort of look?
5. Say YES to Flats or Low Heels
Rather than forcing yourself to wear those sky-high heels or tall wedges, instead, try rocking a cute pair of flats or low heeled sandals.
During the summer, you want to be able to get outside and walk around – not hobble around in uncomfortable heels! Even during the winter months, a comfortable pair of flat boots is essential to a practical wardrobe.

Same here, working from home means I’m casual almost all the time! But I do like to get a little fancy now and then so that half my wardrobe doesn’t get sad for not being used.
Stripes are always a good idea! up until last year I only had one striped piece, now I at least have a few more to rotate in
