While summer calls for fewer layers, natural beachy waves & loads of sunscreen, it also calls (or rather, commands) for more natural everyday makeup.
If you’re like me than chances are during the hot summer days the last thing you want is to feel like your face is melting off; so each summer I change up my beauty routine and bit and lighten up to create a much more sun-kissed, fresh-faced sort of look.
If you’d like to see how I achieved this look than continue reading!
Before getting into the makeup look, I always like to apply some suncare. I have always gotten sunburned quite easily which is why I’ve always found it so important to begin every look with a sunscreen.
Light and Fresh Summer Makeup Tutorial
Bronzer as Eyeshadow:The first step in my light and fresh summer makeup routine is creating the eye look. I first, mix a bronzer (I use Benefit’s Hoola bronzer) with golden eye-shadow (I use Goldmine by MAC) and apply to eyelids
Highlight the brow bone:
Then, using either a white matte or shimmery eyeshadow, I highlight the brow-bone & inner eye corners. I find that this really opens up the eyes and makes me look more awake and refreshed.
Apply an Eyeliner:
Now, I apply a chocolate brown eyeliner close to the lash line (I use Sephora’s “Matte Deep Chocolate” pencil).
Spot Conceal with your favourite Concealer:
Next, I like to apply concealer to under-eye (my favourite concealer lately is by Josie Maran) and on any blemishes that I have.
Add a bit of gold to the lower lash line:
Next, I like to add a deep golden eyeliner to the lower lashline.
I then like to even out and colour correct the redness in my skin by applying the Smashbox photo finish primer.
To finish the eyes, I apply a bit of mascara. Recently, I’ve just been using this Maybeline Super Colossal Mascara which is very affordable and available at most drugstores.
Next, I apply a bit of blush just to warm up my makeup look. For summer, I tend to like blushes that have a slightly more coral or peach tone to it.
Finish the look off with a lip gloss or balm:
The last step in my makeup look is always a lip balm or gloss. Lately, I’ve really liked the look of this lipgloss by BareMinerals – it’s such a perfect pinky-peach colour and it feels super buttery smooth on the lips.
