Last Saturday I attended Blog Podium. For those of you that don’t know, Blog Podium is a conference for bloggers to come and learn insider tricks & secrets to improving your blog. They cover everything from how to monetize your blog to how to take better photos indoors. If you’re a new blogger, blogging conferences are something I would absolutely consider looking into because they can really help you understand blogging and avoid some of the frustrating learning curve.
If there’s one thing that can get me nervous it’s the idea of walking into a room where I know no one and attempt to “mingle”. Small talk may be my biggest downfall, it’s truly an art that I have never mastered. So you can imagine that when I attend these conferences I can get quite the wave of worry beforehand. I remember when I first started attending them how overwhelmed I felt. Now that I’ve been to a fair share of events though, I’ve figured out a few things that ease my nerves and help me feel as confident as possible. If you’re heading off to your first blogging event, or just have been battling nerves before them then click through to read my tried and true tips to feeling your best at events!
What to Wear to Your Next Blog Event
Dress As Usual:
Don’t typically wear heels? Then don’t wear them for the event. Don’t wear anything you wouldn’t typically wear. You want to feel comfortable and confident, and feeling like you’re fighting your outfit choice will ruin that! When I first went to events I felt like I always had to
be really on my “style game” but over time I realized that wearing things that I choose to wear in my daily life (the outfits that end up ON my blog) are the items I feel the best in.
Wear your best attitude, and come feeling confident. I battle anxiety and unfortunately at times that means I can come across less than confident when meeting people. In-fact, I’ve decided against going to many events both in my blogging life & my personal life because of my anxiety. It’s always tough to put anxiety to the side, but you know what they say… Fake it til you make it! Plus I’ve found that the more events you go to the less anxious you feel.
Remember they’re Just People, too:
My biggest challenge when I first started going to these events was my (and at times, is still) anxiety. A lot of the people that attended the events that I went to were people I looked up to, and when I met them I felt incredibly intimidated. But one thing I eventually came to the realization was that they were just people too. This realization happened after chatting with a
fellow blogger (who was actually one of the very first I had ever started reading) and she had mentioned that she had had the same anxiety when she first began attending events but eventually she just thought hey, they are just people too.
