Wines to Serve at Your Next Event

A few weeks ago, I had the joy of attending the Vancouver Wine Festival. Now, if you know me then you know – I love me a nice glass-o-wine so this event was right up my alley.  Trying out so many unique wines from all over the world was such a fun experience, and as I tasted and tried them I kept thinking of possible pairings. Today I am super excited to be sharing with you my very favourite wines from the Vancouver Wine Festival, as well as a few wine pairings that I think would be perfect to try on your next wine night!

Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Chardonnay

My favourite wine that I got to try at the Vancouver Wine Festival was the Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Chardonnay. Typically, I’m not a chardonnay fan – but this chardonnay completely converted me.

The Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Chardonnay is made up of tropical notes which give it a really bright freshness, and that’s balanced with creamy notes of vanilla and butter. At the booth, they suggested pairing this wine with grilled chicken, and corn on the cob. I also felt that this wine would pair incredibly well with popcorn! I know, unique and odd pairing suggestion but there’s something about the creamy buttery and vanilla notes in this wine that made popcorn seem like a natural choice to pair it with. So, next time you’re settling in for a movie night, grab a bottle of Kendall Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay and a bowl of popcorn and enjoy!

2015 Lake Sonoma Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley

This was another wine that impressed me and my husband. We love Cab Savs to begin with, but the 2015 Lake Sonoma Winery Cabernet Sauvignon was beautifully vibrant and earthy. This wine has bright notes of cherry, chocolate, and white pepper.

Sileni Estates Sauvignon Blanc

This bright and fresh Sauvignon Blanc is made up of flavours of passionfruit, tropical fruits, and gooseberries. The first thing I noticed about this wine was the tart undertone of the gooseberry. I love gooseberries, so this note really won me over.  They suggested enjoying this wine with a tomato and basil salad, or with oysters.

Bellezza Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The Bellezza Chianti Classico Gran Selezione has intense notes of cherry, chocolate, and spice. This wine would pair perfectly with a hearty meal, such as steak and potatoes. I love a good Chianti and this one is simply delicious.

Irony Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

In my opinion, this wine is a total crowd-pleaser. It’s a wine that has complexities and unique notes, but also is a wine that the beginner red wine drinker would be able to enjoy. It boasts rich dark berry flavors, chocolate, cherries, and finishes with a note of spice. This medium-bodied wine balances sweetness with richness and is bold but with subtle notes within it. It would pair perfectly with roast beef, pasta, or a sweet chocolatey dessert.
